Gerry Barnabys Film Review : Thor

Genre: Comic Book Fantasy Action Adventure, contain mild violent action & mild horror

Cert: PG-12A cert

Parents advised to read before viewing film as some scene may contain scenes unsuitable for younger viewers.

Sex & Nudity: A female nurse pulls down Thor's clothing to reveal his bare buttocks for a second, as she injects a sedative. It is non-sexual and you can't see much.
When Thor is changing into regular clothes, we see part of his buttocks for a second or two. Jane notices this and smiles, but it is very brief and not the focus of the scene. He also walks around with his shirt off for a few minutes.
Loki very briefly threatens to "pay (Jane) a visit myself", after commenting that she's made Thor "soft", but the threat's not delivered in her presence and younger viewers may not pick up on it.

Violence & Gore: Fantastic combat scenes, Thor fights several Frost Giants, however they crack and crumble like ice.
Some characters are shown getting frostbite-style injuries from fighting the Frost Giants, including one character who must seek medical attention after; Loki is seized by the arm by one Frost Giant, and his whole forearm withers and turns blue. However, this is not an injury but his own Jotun heritage coming to light.
Thor flies through the head of a monster, mild blood visible, however the blood is black.
Thor fights his way in a secured perimeter knocking out many guards in the process, no blood or excessive cruelty is shown.
Thor is tasered by Darcy and is knocked out, but in a comical manner.
Thor gets hit by the same woman's car several times, but is never shown seriously harmed by it.
Thor is violently backhanded in the face by the Destroyer, leaving bloody contusions and wounds on his face and chest, although the scene is short it is very moving and emotional when Thor dies in Jane's arms. (He is brought back to life by Mjolnir later.)
Emotionally intense fight scene between Loki and Thor.

Profanity:  Language is relatively mild, only "damn" and some other mild language is heard.

Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking:Two characters are scene drinking at a bar briefly. One of the characters return home obviously intoxicated.

Frightening/Intense Scenes: The Frost Giants might be scary for some young kids.
The scenes with car accidents and the hero being struck by a car might also be upsetting.
The final scene with the Destroyer might be frightening, since many buildings are shown being destroyed and the townsfolk must be evacuated. At this, Thor, although he is reduced to an ordinary mortal, confronts the machine and dies in the attempt to apologise to Loki. However, this act of selfless bravery causes his war hammer to return to him to restore his power as a god and he then defeats the Destroyer. (Furthermore, all the townsfolk are evacuated to safety in time.)
One scene with Loki confronting his father about his parentage, discovering that he is adopted and part-Frost Giant may be upsetting, particularly to children who are also adopted or stepchildren -- he's never treated as any less Thor's brother or Odin's son by other characters, but he's very distraught and furious, and his jealousy and sense of betrayal are the cause of his villainy.
Overall, most of the violence is fantastical and against nonhuman enemies, but the fight scenes that take place on Earth and some of the cars crashing might be upsetting in a real-world way.

Story: THOR. This epic adventure spans the Marvel Universe; from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth. Kenneth Branagh directs this fantasy epic which stars Australian actor Chris Hemsworth as the ancient Norse god, Tom Hiddleston as his evil brother Loki, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, a young woman who befriends Thor on Earth, and Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Thor's father and king of Asgard.
