Gerry Barnabys Film Review: Silent Hill

Genre:  Horror Mystery, contains extreme torture, bloody violence & strong language

Cert : 18 cert
Parents advised to read before viewing film as some scene may contain scenes unsuitable for younger viewers.

Sex & Nudity: It is implied a little girl was sexually abused by an older man.
A woman's dress is ripped off by a monstrous creature head and we see the side of her bare body.
A woman wears a tank top and boxer shorts (cleavage and bare thighs are visible).

Violence & Gore: Very violent.
A car crash happens very early in the movie, a woman suffers a forehead wound.
A woman with a very bloody face (from a previous beating) is tied to a ladder, a pyre is lit, she is lowered over the flames and we watch as her skin begins to blister and she bursts into flames, killing her. Her body is seen later.
A woman is ripped apart by barbed wire and blood splatters everywhere. Several other people die in the same gruesome manner during this scene.
A young woman is picked up by a demonic humanoid wearing a metal helmet, he rips her dress and pulls it off, then grabs her skin, pulls that off too and throws it against a door, splattering blood on two women.
Three men are eaten by creepers (beetle-like creatures). Most of this is off screen.
Several masked men beat up a policewoman with a metal pipe. Some blood is shown.
A woman with a stick beats three men; we hear a splat when one is struck in the head and blood spurts, while the others are briefly incapacitated.
A man is stabbed in the throat. Some blood is shown.
We see a body hanging from it's feet with what appears to be parts of flesh missing, and it is covered in dried blood.
Two women are approached by a human-like form. Upon being shot, black blood spurts from it which is acidic and burns objects.
A woman is stabbed in the chest (we see a bloody gash), she falls to the floor and abnormally large amounts of blood gush from the wound.
A woman throws stones at another woman.
An apparition of a little girl bursts into flames.
Two people hit a woman in the face, she falls to the floor, but she gets up and forces her way through an angry crowd.
A little girl is horrifically burned in a twisted ritual after being forced away from her mother, we see her blackened body afterwards when help comes. We see her poorly-healed body a couple of times. Both instances are partially obscured the low 'projector' quality of the footage.
A woman is shown bleeding from her sightless eyes
.

Profanity:  7 F-words, 4 scatological terms, 10 mild obscenities, name-calling (stupid), 1 religious profanity, 12 religious exclamations.

Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking:A man drinks alcohol.

Frightening/Intense Scenes Most of the scenes taking place in Silent Hill are spooky at best and highly disturbing at worst.
Because of this film's sustained, and strong, bloody horror (along with some strong language) it should be restricted for adult viewing only. It may be suitable for some older and more mature teenagers (i.e. mature 16-year-olds) but this film is certainly not suitable for younger teenagers (i.e. 12 to 15-year-olds). 18+ (16+ with warning)

Story : Based on the best selling horror action game, silent hill star radha mitchll as rose, a desperate mother who take her adopted daughter Sharon, to the town of silent hill in attempt to cure her of her ailment, after a violent car crash, Sharon disappears & rose begins her desperate search to get her back. She descends into a fog of smouldering ash & into the centre of the twisted reality of the town's terrible secret. Pursued by grotesquely deformed creatures & townspeople stuck in permanent purgatory, rose begins to uncover the truth behind the apocalyptic disaster that burned the town 30 years back. dare to step inside the horrific town of silent hill, where darkness preys on every soul & hell's creations wait around every corner.but know that once you enter.....there is no turning back!

Likes : I love this film,it so like the games in every way creep, horrible & scary at the same time,i like the story line as well, the fact with what they did they unleashed the power of vengeance from the little girl they killed who made a packed with a demon to get vengeance awesome horror film. The plot has been glossed over slightly in a Hollywood fashion, but captures the essence of its characters and storyline - which is: as a last resort, a mother takes her ill daughter to a place she often mentions in her sleep - a place near where she was adopted from. But the hope the mother has for her daughter's recovery quickly shatters and turns into despair when the little girl vanishes in the misty mysterious old town.
I truly cannot credit the atmosphere of this film enough. Christophe Gans has successfully captured the eerie mood of Silent Hill and it is a nightmarish place - a fog-enshrouded hell that shifts between two modes: barren ashen daylight and a gruesome decaying state with fiery ember, demons and enhanced by chilling (and very sudden) sound effects. It's strangely fascinating, surreal and above all frightening.
The problems of Silent Hill (2006) are that there are not nearly enough build-ups. They should have been used not only to stay faithful to the video game upon which it was based but to wield tension in the right way and shock us when the build-up finally culminates. But here we are introduced to horrid creatures early on and often without much foreshadowing devices. Because they are presented to us so generously and clear-viewed, they are not that scary. At all. Some even manage a raised eyebrow, like the crawly CGI cripples.
In the end, I think this is quality horror entertainment and probably one of the better game-to-film adaptations

Dislikes : there nothing i can say wrong with this film, it was a spot on film.

Overall : A must see film for all horror fans, this film will have you behind the sofa or under a cover this film is creep but scary at the same time.

Rating : entertainment 5 out of 5 star, for horror & creepiness 10 out of 10.
