Gerry Barnaby's Film Review: Total Recall

Genre: Action Adventure Sci-Fi, contains strong violence & some strong language

Cert: 15 cert

Story: Welcome to Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real memories. For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even though he's got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) who he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life - real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man. Finding himself on the run from the police - controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston), the leader of the free world - Quaid teams up with a rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) to find the head of the underground resistance (Bill Nighy) and stop Cohaagen

Likes : Wow what an unbelievably amazing brilliant film, altho the original was good with Arnold this was better,a total fresh storyline to the original but the concept & feel of this film was like blade runner,i robot, fifth element all put in to one film, the stunning special effect & the design of the police security mechs with the white & black amour pulled a well made film together. The action scene are fast & in your face the car chase was brilliant, specially the scene where Kate beckinsale is chasing Colin Farrell character across the futuristic roof tops of a blade runner feel city was just amazing. The design of these security mechs were kind of like the ones from mass effect game but it really worked well for this film because it made them look awesome like they had a character of their own.The storyline was change from the control of air to control of space on earth but in my mind that what a remake needed because if it like the original to much it would be serious bad, but this really was well filmed. Colin Ferrell plays Douglas Quaid / Hauser a world class top covert intelligent agent that has he's mind erased & new memories put in to cover what he was really doing but start to remember what he has lock away in his mind & comes to see what is really going on.The beautiful Kate Beckinsale plays Lori Quaid a planted agent to be he wife, which i think she had some kind of mech technology in her because she was seriously fast & strong when she realise that quaid has discover that his life is not real she set out on a pursuit across the city to kill him after he escape her.The beautiful Jessica Biel plays Melina a member of the resistances for Matthias played by (underworld star & pirate of the Caribbean Davy Jones) Bill Nighy, i found her character to be very tough, dedicated to the course to bring down the evil Cohaagen played by Bryan Cranston who i thought was good for the role because he had this ruthless side to him. along with these actors the on screen chemistry was spot on,it was believable it had that gritty edge to the storyline.but i love the way they had the feel of blade runner with the shop discos & streets that real set the films mood & atmosphere, this film couldn't of done any better than the way its been films, because it was perfectly filmed in every way with awesome performance's from all the extras & stars of the film.

Dislike: Slightly a little slow in places but that all

Overall : If you love blade runner,sc-fi & action films this is one to watch unmissable, brilliant performance & stunning visual effects really sets the mood & feel of the film.

Rating: 5 out of 5 for entertainment, 9 out of 10 for action & storyline.

Gerry Barnaby's Film Reviews: DvD realise: The Lucky One

Genre:  Drama,  contain mild abuse & mild language

Cert: 15 cert

Story: U.S. Marine Sergeant Logan Thibault (Efron) returns from his third tour of duty in Iraq, with the one thing he credits with keeping him alive--a photograph he found of a woman he doesn't even know. Learning her name is Beth (Schilling) and where she lives, he shows up at her door, and ends up taking a job at her family-run local kennel. Despite her initial mistrust and the complications in her life, a romance develops between them, giving Logan hope that Beth could be much more than his good luck charm

Likes : i love the basis of this film the classic boy meet girl & falls in love, this film is very heart warming & delivers romance on a different level. This truly is what fate is all about, in this film you see a different zac efron to the way you normal see him in films,he plays Logan a us marine that find a photo of a young woman which in fact saved he's life from a mortar attack that killed 6 of his squad. His journey take you on a journey of fate & love that for some reason is guiding him to seek her out to say thank you but lends him to a fate that predictable but heart warming,i love the way this film is filmed in a beautiful setting of country side peace & quiet.Taylor Schilling plays the love interest and the sister of the died soldier the photo is from, i found her very pretty not bad looking to, her character plays this struggling single mum with a ass whole of an ex husband trying to bring up a little boy when Logan turns up & brights her life with love.Jay R. Ferguson plays the abusive ex husband through he's own jealousy to Logan seals his own fate for good. This film seriously is the best romanic feel good film ive seen in ages, filmed with beautiful style that real melts your heart zac efron & taylor schilling really do bring a true performance to this film & make the film for what it is a true film of fate & finding love when you least expect it.

Dislike: nothing wrong with this film.

Overall : A good film if your looking for a romantic film, a fantastic performance by efron & a well worth watching film.

Rating: 5 out of 5 for storyline, 8 out of 10 for romantic feel & film setting

Gerry Barnaby's film reviews: The Watch

Genre:  Comedy Sci-Fi,  contain strong sexual refrences & medium violences

Cert: 15 cert
Story: Four everyday suburban guys come together as an excuse to escape their humdrum lives one night a week. But when they accidentally discover that their town has become overrun with aliens posing as ordinary suburbanites, they have no choice but to save their neighborhood -- and the world -- from total extermination.

Likes : This wasn't to bad but wasn't brilliant, I found this film to be enjoyable to watch with few one-liners that make you laugh along with the antics of the four suburban guys. Ben Stiller play this straight edge character Evan that doesn't know how to lighten up,but is friendly to everyone in the neighborhood but lighten up half way through when the it real hits the fan on whats going on.Vince Vaughn plays this mad cap father that loves gadgets but is a little over protective of he daughter but is funny.Jonah Hill play this complete nut case guy Franklin who has this thing for knifes & gun a bit of weapon nut some of the things i seen this film were pretty funny buy this actor.Richard Ayoade (from TV it crowed) plays Jamarcus plays this nerdy type of guy who was pretty funny as well.i found this film to be one of those types of film to your sense of humour.it had a few good moments as well as it serious funny moments but it was OK.the C.G.I & creatures costumes were awesome, i loved the way they made these hing look evil & menacing. Will Forte who play this dumbass cop Sergeant Bressman, Sgt.... who tries to be funny in the film but just comes across as a weird person which was a little funny.

Dislike: Al tho this film was enjoyable to watch there are some actors that just don't have that film chemistry together, there not really playing off each other well which kinds of lets the film down a little bit, film plot was good but it need something better than the ending was it been done to many times in alien film,i found that ending to be a bit lazy. This film had a slight balance between comical parts & action but not enough for it to be a well balanced film.

Overall : This film is enjoyable to watch had a few funny moments,it one of those film you Iver like it or not it just depends on your sense of humor, but worth watching & not bad for a mixed sc-fi/thriller comedy film.

Rating: 4 out of 5 for entertainment, 5 out of 10 for story & funny moments.

Gerry Barnaby's Film Review: The Expendables 2

Genre:  Action Thriller, contains strong  bloody violence & strong language

Cert: 15 cert

Story: The Expendables are back and this time it's personal... Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), Yin Yang (Jet Li), Gunnar Jensen (Dolph Lundgren),Toll Road (Randy Couture) and Hale Caesar (Terry Crews) -- with newest members Billy the Kid (Liam Hemsworth) and Maggie (Yu Nan) aboard -- are reunited when Mr. Church (Bruce Willis) enlists the Expendables to take on a seemingly simple job. The task looks like an easy paycheck for Barney and his band of old-school mercenaries. But when things go wrong and one of their own is viciously killed, the Expendables are compelled to seek revenge in hostile territory where the odds are stacked against them

Likes : Omg this film was class, move over the first film this was better, they went all out with this film, action for start to finish, fantastic fight scene, funny as hell one lines.Even tho this film has a classic 80s style, this film was awesome, the acting was just spot on, these actors in one film really work well with each other,Sylvester Stallone returning as Barney Ross was just awesome you could really see it in he face what happen to Billy the Kid played by Liam Hemsworth who was an absolutely awesome sniper in this film both actors were just amazing in there parts.Jet Li returns as Yin Yang,i find jet Li to an awesome marshal artist very close to Bruce lee in speed, you don't see him must in the film as he only in the film for the first 20 Min's of the film but it was a good 20 Min's of the start of the film complete action. The beautiful Charisma Carpenter is back in this film as well cameo role as Lacy Lee Christmas girlfriend from the first film look beautiful & sexy as ever.Jason Statham return as lee Christmas now i love statham attitude in this film special the fight scene in the church that was awesome but what i loved about he character as well was the fight scene between him & Scott Adkins a world know martial artist who plays Hector the right hand man of Jean Vilain played by Jean-Claude Van Damme.Jason & Scott fight scene was awesome brutal & fast with a nasty ending which made even me look away from the screen, i love marshal art fights in film it give it that edge instead of just punching all the time.Jean-Claude Van Damme character jean vilain man was he playing a vicious character no respect for human life what so ever, a very ruthless man power hungry & money driven character but the fight scene with him and Sylvester was awesome it was a Marshal artist meet raw power of a man with revenge on he's mind that was a dam good fight scene.Chuck Norris was just awesome in this film as Booker they call him the lone wolf because he like to do a job on he's own dam is he good at it as well.bruce willis & arnold were just class in this film as well.I love film like this good balance between the humour & action, special the humour with the one-liners & them taking the mick out of each other it show a good tight family unit that have each others back when there in trouble. This film will take you on a roller coaster of action from start to finish & has to be one of the most bloodthirstiest film Ive ever seen when you seen soldiers flying apart from 50cal bullets & explosions.I truly hope they make a 3rd film because is really is what action films should be like.

Dislike: Nothing wrong with this film to report

Overall : A fantastic action film, well worth watching,a must see at the cinema.

Rating: 5 out of 5 for entertainment, 10 out of 10 for action/fight scenes

Gerry barnaby's film review: The Bourne Legacy

Genre: Action Adventure Mystery, contains strong violence & reference to drug use

Cert: 15 cert

Story: The narrative architect behind the Bourne film series, Tony Gilroy, takes the helm in the next chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise that has earned almost $1 billion at the global box office: The Bourne Legacy. The writer/director expands the Bourne universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (Jeremy Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films. For The Bourne Legacy, Renner joins fellow series newcomers Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach and Oscar Isaac, while franchise veterans Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn and Scott Glenn reprise their roles

Likes : This had it moments good fight scene's & car Chase's, the acting was spot on i like the way they show a chemical science to destroy your y chromosomes with a virus that then regenerates extra chromosomes to make you faster, stronger & smarter,i like the way they did that.Jeremy Renner I'm finding a good actor also played in (mission in possible 4: Ghost Protocol & hawk eye in avengers) he play the character Aaron Cross a genetically enhanced agent like Jason bourne but better.Jeremy was pretty good playing this type of role it suits he's acting skill's better playing action role's.Rachel Weisz beautiful actress plays Dr. Marta Shearing an innocent Dr caught up in government order to kill everyone that is involved with the experiment in comes Aaron cross to rescue her. This film was good on a spy type film but had flaw.

Dislike: The film had potential to be better, but it started off way to slow it was like that through the whole start of the film then go a little fast paced with the fight scenes & car chase but that about it, then got really slow again, the end was bad i was expecting a bigger ending by it was like the other bourne films lame, action films to me need to be more fast paced for me this just wasn't fast paced enough it was seriously slow.

Overall : It depend on what you like really some mite like it,other mite not but for me it wasn't fast paced enough to slow, but not a bad film could of been better.

Rating: 3 out of 5 for action/ 5 out of 10 for thriller & pace of the film.
