Gerry Barnaby's Film Review: Looper

Genre: Action Sci-Fi Thriller, contains strong violent action & bloody scenes/strong language

Cert: 15 cert

Story: In the futuristic action thriller Looper, time travel will be invented - but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a "looper" - a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) - is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good... until the day the mob decides to "close the loop," sending back Joe's future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination

Likes : Ive heard people say this film was brilliant, ya it was in places but i personally found this film not one of Bruce Willi's best film's by far, i love the concept of this film where people are being sent back from the future by mafia type police or lord to be killed by looper a assassin's hire to kill these people until there own self are sent back then there free from the contract because in the future as id detection so there sent back to be dealt with.I also love the fact that they kept a guy call the rain of terror a secret because no one knew who he was but this guy was dangerous which you do find out why in the film itself. Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Bruce willis's characters younger self Joe who plays the looper an assassin taking out who ever is sent back to be killed &m disposed of,he's character life take a turn when he's confronted by he's older self played by Bruce Willis, he thrown into a race against time to find out why he ran & what he's up to.Bruce Willis's performance was brilliant in this film plays that john maclean type style as he hunts down someone across the city called the rain of terror. The beautiful Emily Blunt plays a farm owner with a young child Sara which you find out there is something not quiet right about this child she has & gets caught up in the mayhem.Pierce Gagnon plays the little boy of Emily blunts character Sara, now seeing this kid for the first time you think he's a nice kid normal but you would be far from the truth there is just something not right about this kid because you can tell that straight away from Sara reaction when he gets mad.Jeff Daniels plays the mafia boss who sends the loppers out & if there is any runner he takes them both out.I love the way they showed limbs diapering from the older version of one of the loppers as they take off the limbs of the younger self & other things, that shows that what happens in the past effect the future in time travel that was good, i also found this film to be a little brutal in places.but not a bad film to watch with a good twist in the story that turns the storyline around.

Dislike: The one film that is a massive failure for films is the motion of the films speed in storyline, being to slow really kills the film & the audience loss interest in the film Ive seen it happen so many times in films, this is the point i'm getting at with this film it was to slow not another action yes is was a good storyline but the slowness & the pace of this film wasn't fast enough,i found it very easy to loss interest in the film. This film was good I'm a Bruce Willis fan but this was far from one of his best films to date.

Overall : If you like the time travel thriller theme of film with a twist in the storyline this is one ,but if your looking for fast paced action in a film you wont find it in this film.Good film but not brilliant, just the pace of the film was a let down.

Rating: 3 out of 5 for storyline, 4 out of 10 for entertainment/pace of film

Gerry Barnaby's film Review: Rock of Ages

Genre: Comedy Drama Musical, contains strong alcoholic drinking & strong language

Cert: 15 cert

Story: Rock of Ages tells the story of small town girl Sherrie and city boy Drew, who meet on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams. Their rock 'n' roll romance is told through the heart-pounding hits of Def Leopard, Joan Jett, Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Night Ranger, REO Speed-wagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, White snake and more

Likes : I love this film because of the classic 80s rock Ballard's , reason being is it was rock at its best in the 80s with passion & its not like the rock music today, to much shouting you cant hear or feel the passion behind the music. Its one of those film you Ive love or hate it just depends on weather your a 80s child & grow up on the rock music back then like me.This film also has a lot of comical humour as well as some amazing Ballard's that sets the tone of the film brilliantly, you get the film of the film. Diego Boneta plays a struggling musician Drew Boley that has stage fright until he meet a beautiful girl Sherrie Christian that show him that the fear is in his mind played by the beautiful Julianne Hough who character comes to Hollywood to make a break & a new life & things don't quiet go to plan. Alec Baldwin plays Dennis Dupree the rock club owner struggling to keep the club open due to a bunch of stuck up people that hate rock an roll,he's partner to the club that supposed to be a bounce which is funny because he dosent kick anyone out Lonny played by Russell Brand. Tom Cruise plays a lead singer of a rock group call arsenal Stacee Jaxx ,he was brilliant in this roll playing the drunk all the time rock star that owns a baboon that seems to be a servant fetching things for him. Mary J. Blige plays a dance club owner that takes Sherrie under her wing when her life fall apart. Bryan Cranston plays the mayor trying to bring down the rock an roll club, Paul Giamatti plays this money hungry music Producer Paul Gill who mangers Stacee Jaxx,he play this kind of corrupted music producer that all he wants to do is make money no matter the cost. Catherine Zeta-Jones plays this once rock an roll girl but now the mayors wife Patricia Whitmore who is hell bend on destroying Stacee Jaxx rock an roll career over something that happen years ago.Along with some fantastic 80s rock Ballard's this film wasn't bad to watch.

Dislike: The only thing i will say here is it depends on what you like because not everyone is going to like this film,it just depends on weather you like 80s rock Ballard's.

Overall : If you in to rock 80s rock Ballard's,love music in a film this is one for you, classic 80s rock Ballard's, good acting & good 80s style film.

Rating: 5 out of 5 for 80s style, 5 out of 10 for storyline.

Gerry Barnabys Film Review: Bait

Genre: Action Horror Thriller, contains strong bloody shark attack scene & death scenes.

Cert: 18 cert

Story: When a monstrous freak tsunami hits a sleepy beach community, a group of survivors from different walks of life find themselves trapped inside a submerged grocery store. As they try to escape to safety, they soon discover that there is a predator among them more deadly than the threat of drowning-vicious great white sharks lurking in the water, starved hungry for fresh meat. As the bloodthirsty sharks begin to pick the survivors off one by one, the group realizes that they must work together to find a way out without being eaten alive.

Likes : i love The claustrophobic atmosphere created when a tsunami suddenly hit the coast & floods a supermarket and its basement car park,a few people are trap. What your thinking is OK it just a tsunami their easy to get out of a supermarket, but how wrong could you be to add terror to this film the tsunami has washed two 12 foot great whites in to the supermarket one in the car park one in the store itself, this is where this film start to rack up the body count to the already dead in the store. This film mite look like a typical fake shark film but it turns out to be far from it.Xavier Samuel plays Josh a former lifeguard who's still not come to terms with the loss of his best friend to a great white shark and the resulting break up with his fiancé Tina played by Sharni Vinson which both get caught up in this nightmare.Julian McMahon (star of charmed & nip tuck also played doom in fantastic 4) play a man on the edge trying to find a way out for his brother by robbing the supermarket when all hell breaks lose with the water & earth quakes.Trap in the basement car park are Lincoln Lewis who plays Kyle a dumb jock, Cariba Heine who plays Heather a dumb Blondie with her dog fluffy & Alex Russell who plays Ryan, now this scene with kyle & heather was pretty funny as the banter is flying left & right from them both, while Ryan is trying to find a way out of the basement & not get eaten by the 12 foot shark swim around in circle.Alice Parkinson plays one of the survivors in the store that works there, Damien Garvey plays the store security who's life take a bad turn.Martin Sacks play the police officer Todd that get injured in the trouble with his daughter Phoebe Tonkin who plays Jaimie a troubled teenage after the loss of her mother.Coupled with the add terror of the sharks being between them & the exit it adds the tension more that starts between them all. This was a well balance film between comical humour to terror & tension it was like daylight, deep blue sea,day after tomorrow mixed into one

Dislike: two things i did notice one was the injury cop Todd, i noticed in one scene he had he's leg over the side of the shelves near the water now if i was a hungry shark i would of grab that leg,the second was it was a little predictable in places.

Overall : Not a bad film, this is not a low budget film with fake sharks these really do look real, worth watching full of tension & terror with a few gory scenes if you love shark films this is one to watch.

Rating: 4 out of 5 for storyline, 7.5 out of 10 for horror & terror.

Gerry Barnaby's Film Review: The Possession

Genre:  Horror Thriller,  contains strong demonic paranormal violences

Cert: 18 cert

Story: Based on a true story, The Possession is the terrifying account of how one family must unite in order to survive the wrath of an unspeakable evil. Clyde (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Stephanie Brenek (Kyra Sedgwick) see little cause for alarm when their youngest daughter Em becomes oddly obsessed with an antique wooden box she purchased at a yard sale. But as Em's behavior becomes increasingly erratic, the couple fears the presence of a malevolent force in their midst, only to discover that the box was built to contain a dibbuk, a dislocated spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host.

Likes : This truly has to be very physiological spin chilling supernatural horror film Ive ever seen, from the get go this film throws you in to a dark world of demons & this real dose deliver on the creepiness of horror films. Some of these scene in the film really put me on edge special the hospital scene that really freaked me out even tho you saw it coming.Jeffrey Dean Morgan (star of supernaturals john Winchester) plays the father Clyde, his character is a loving father that struggle to raise his kids after a divorce with his wife but is pulled in to the nightmare when he start noticing his daughter behaviour change after she gets this box at a yard sale.i find the Jeffery dean Morgan is a brilliant actor seeing him in supernatural i find he real throws him self in to a role & makes it look real.Natasha Calis plays the possessed girl Em which at first you through was a sweet kid but when she gets the box my god she really looked evil in some scene when the demon took over,i love the way they show the character change slowly over time to this demonic creature that was fantastic.Kyra Sedgwick plays the mother of the two girls Stephanie, she plays this ex wife that starts to hate Clyde with the thing happening but dosent realise what truly going on until she find out for her self, i love her acting she really showed fear in her eyes hen she noticed her daughter wasn't right.Jay Brazeau plays a demonology expert that can speak Latin & tell Clyde what the box is.Madison Davenport plays the sister of em, her character showed real fear & worry when things started to happen in the house.Matisyahu plays the Rabi Tzadok that help the family get rid of the demonic presents that in em.Along with the special effect of this film it delivers a physiological feel of terror to everyone's nightmares, with out a doubt this has to be one of the best horror film for the psychological theme around to date for any horror fans this is one to watch.its creepy, spin chilling & psychologically creepy.

Dislike: Only one thing is that its a little to close to the films unborn & exorcist but its a good horror film to watch.

Overall : if you love a pyschology chilling film, creepiness that woud freak you out this is one to watch, seriously creepy.

Rating: 4 out of 5 for storyline based on a true story, 8 out of 10 for he demonic theme & creepiness of the film

Gerry Barnaby's film review: Dredd (2012)

Genre:   Action Sci-Fi,  contains extreme bloody violence & drug use

Cert: 18 cert

Story: The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called "Judges" who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge - a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of "Slo-Mo" experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed

Likes : If you want action & all out blood thirsty violence's this is the film to watch, this is what judge dredds character so needed to be like, the way this film is filmed shows a real cold reality of this type of world. From the get go this film hit the violence off the scale, from car Chase's to an all out war trapped in a mega block, when the only way out is to fight your way out. With its stunning special effect, gun fire & explosion this film really dose deliver. Karl Urban is awesome as dredd, at first i didn't think he would pull off the character but he delivered a good performance,he brought this cold dark don't give a sh*t attitude to the dredd like he was still angry about something but controlled in his mind about something that happened in he's past, i loved this portrayal of this character in this way it brought a new edge to the dredd, where we've only seen a tame dredd seen in the original film which was good but this one is better. The beautiful Olivia Thirlby plays the rookie judge with a physic ability due to the radiation, her performance in this film was brilliant, she had some funny scene special the lift scene that made me laugh, but it was her ability to read minds that brought a good partner to dredd & on screen chemistry was very good.Lena Headey plays the drug lord dealer in peaches tree tower block, she played this ex pro that took over the gangs & street with violent intent & if any one crossed her or dealing on her tuff the consequences were bad for them. She was seriously evil playing this role, special not giving a dam about the people living in the block when she went after the judge with evil intent.Warrick Grier plays Caleb ma ma right hand man, but what  dredd did to him was funny but cold, but it did show ma ma that he wasn't messing around & that he was coming for her full force. Cameo role's : Rakie Ayola plays Chief Judge, Daniel Hadebe plays Judge at Entrance, Francis Chouler plays Judge at Entrance, Langley Kirkwood plays Judge Lex, Edwin Perry plays Judge Alvarez, Karl Thaning plays Judge Chan, Michele Levin plays Judge Kaplan.Allen Irwin plays Slo Mo Den Leader (uncredited), Brandon Livanos plays Member of the coyote clan (uncredited.the way I find this film is the way judge dredd should of been filmed in the first place a dark gritty world of violence where the judges are struggle to keep law & order in a lawless world the concept of this film really felt like it was real & not like a Hollywood film, this is what dredd needed a violent, cold darker storyline which brought out the character of dredd & the reason why criminals fear dredd more than any other judge on the streets of mega city.

Dislike: nothing wrong with this film complete well made

Overall : action, extreme violence ,blood thirsty battles, dark storyline, a well worth watching film,Karl urban is awesome as dredd.

Rating: 5 out of 5 for entertainment, 10 out of 10 for extreme violence/action/performance's by all.
