Gerry Barnabys Film Review: Bait

Genre: Action Horror Thriller, contains strong bloody shark attack scene & death scenes.

Cert: 18 cert

Story: When a monstrous freak tsunami hits a sleepy beach community, a group of survivors from different walks of life find themselves trapped inside a submerged grocery store. As they try to escape to safety, they soon discover that there is a predator among them more deadly than the threat of drowning-vicious great white sharks lurking in the water, starved hungry for fresh meat. As the bloodthirsty sharks begin to pick the survivors off one by one, the group realizes that they must work together to find a way out without being eaten alive.

Likes : i love The claustrophobic atmosphere created when a tsunami suddenly hit the coast & floods a supermarket and its basement car park,a few people are trap. What your thinking is OK it just a tsunami their easy to get out of a supermarket, but how wrong could you be to add terror to this film the tsunami has washed two 12 foot great whites in to the supermarket one in the car park one in the store itself, this is where this film start to rack up the body count to the already dead in the store. This film mite look like a typical fake shark film but it turns out to be far from it.Xavier Samuel plays Josh a former lifeguard who's still not come to terms with the loss of his best friend to a great white shark and the resulting break up with his fiancé Tina played by Sharni Vinson which both get caught up in this nightmare.Julian McMahon (star of charmed & nip tuck also played doom in fantastic 4) play a man on the edge trying to find a way out for his brother by robbing the supermarket when all hell breaks lose with the water & earth quakes.Trap in the basement car park are Lincoln Lewis who plays Kyle a dumb jock, Cariba Heine who plays Heather a dumb Blondie with her dog fluffy & Alex Russell who plays Ryan, now this scene with kyle & heather was pretty funny as the banter is flying left & right from them both, while Ryan is trying to find a way out of the basement & not get eaten by the 12 foot shark swim around in circle.Alice Parkinson plays one of the survivors in the store that works there, Damien Garvey plays the store security who's life take a bad turn.Martin Sacks play the police officer Todd that get injured in the trouble with his daughter Phoebe Tonkin who plays Jaimie a troubled teenage after the loss of her mother.Coupled with the add terror of the sharks being between them & the exit it adds the tension more that starts between them all. This was a well balance film between comical humour to terror & tension it was like daylight, deep blue sea,day after tomorrow mixed into one

Dislike: two things i did notice one was the injury cop Todd, i noticed in one scene he had he's leg over the side of the shelves near the water now if i was a hungry shark i would of grab that leg,the second was it was a little predictable in places.

Overall : Not a bad film, this is not a low budget film with fake sharks these really do look real, worth watching full of tension & terror with a few gory scenes if you love shark films this is one to watch.

Rating: 4 out of 5 for storyline, 7.5 out of 10 for horror & terror.
