Gerry Barnaby's Film Review: The Avengers Assemble

Genre: Comic Book Action, some scene may not be suitable for any one under 15. contains strong violent action & fight scene.

Cert : 12A cert

Story: Marvel Studios presents Marvel's The Avengers-the Super Hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawk-eye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.

Likes : i'm not normally impressed with marvel films but this film really impressed me with the way they added humour with the action & style of this film. This film in my mind was just fantastic, Robert Downey Jr. awesome as ever as Tony Stark / Iron Man with he's sarcastic humor & one-liners there is no one else that could play that role better,i love the scene with him & Thor fighting each other surprising that Thor is a god tony held is own against him with the suit they were both evenly matched.Chris Evans now here one role that really suits his acting playing Steve Rogers / Captain America,i love the way he kicks ass with the shield & throws it like a boomerang but i tell that shield he cans can take some serious power hits specially when Thor some lighting to he's hammer & hit the shield knock Thor flying from the shock wave that was awesome.Chris Hemsworth playing Thor is fantastic not only dose he have the look for Thor but he plays it so well, special the fight scene with him & the hulk man that was like clash of the titans tho the hulk is serious strong Thor did hold he own in that fight. The beautiful & sexy Scarlett Johansson playing Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow shield agent, now i like the way they show what she can do in this film because the way she get information is just fantastic special in get what she want from Loki that was funny but you see a side of her from her past that still haunts her i like that because it show a human side to the character of black widow.Jeremy Renner as the sniper with a bow Clint Barton / Hawk-eye,i love this character because he dose have a few one liners that are funny but its he's skills as an archer in one scene he shot an arrow behind him with out looking & hit the target spot on that that skill.Stellan Skarsgård plays the evil god Selvig from a dark world, who has any army that he give to loki to command to get the kasarac from earth so he can rule the universe, now his army is massive special these massive snake like creature that hold soldiers on the side of it,they seriously do a lot of damage to the city. Samuel L. Jackson a legend in the film industry i think playing Nick Fury really dose suit he's level of acting,he like a bad ass agent that wont take crap off anyone.Clark Gregg plays Agent Phil Coulson now i like he's character he had this do things by the book but had this whole new side of him which was funny in this film but i nearly cried with what happens to him because it was such a heart breaking moment.Mark Ruffalo now a lot of people were saying that changing the actor to the character Bruce Banner / The Hulk would ruin the film, well i beg to differ on that because he played it awesomely, the hulk seriously kick ass in this film & even had hes own funny moments as well, two that were my favorites like the scene were the hulk & Thor are one of the massive snake creature fighting this army off then bring it down in the station they both stood there for a second i think what the hulk did was i owe you one because he punch Thor of the creature with a full straight left arm that serious had me laughing my head off, the other one was with Loki when Loki was face to face with the hulk Loki said" I'm a god you punye creature, i can crush you under my feet" that where it got funny hulk just grab him it was like a acme cartoon beaten because Loki got slammed on the floor five times then was put through the floor, the hulk walked off say punye god, i nearly wet my self laughing because all you see is Loki in a crater on the floor whimpering in pain, also they show the superior power that the hulk has when with one punch takes down one of those massive snake creatures.Tom Hiddleston plays loki, now with this film you see more of his darkerside to his character then you saw in Thor, because he was really ruthless in this film.Tell ya Ive never seen a film more entertaining than this film it was so worth watching, the special effect were spot on as well,i think this film was well put together i hope there will be more.Bring on a DC version because it would be amazing as well.

Dislikes : absolutely none what so ever.

Overall : action pack, one liner that make you laugh with some funny scenes, this is one film that doesn't disappoint, well worth watching.

Rating: 5 out of 5 for the funny scene/one liners, 10 out of 10 for action & being an outstanding hero film

Gerry Barnaby's Film Review: Aliens (special edition)

Genre: Action  Adventure  Sci-Fi, contains strong bloody violence & strong violent action

Cert: 18 cert

Story: Fifty seven years after Ellen Ripley survived her disastrous ordeal, her escape vessel is recovered after drifting across the galaxy as she slept in cryogenic stasis. Back on earth, nobody believed her story about the "Aliens" on the planet LV-426. After the "Company" orders the colony on LV-426 to investigate, however, all communication with the colony is lost. The Company enlists Ripley to aid a team of tough, rugged space marines on a rescue mission to the now partially terraformed planet to find out if there are aliens or survivors. As the mission unfolds, Ripley will be forced to come to grips with her worst nightmare, but even as she does, she finds that the worst is yet to come

Likes : Since the first frighting alien film Ridley Scot gave us, James Cameron bring a whole new terror to the story as Ripley is once again force to return to face not one this time but a hundred xenomorphs with a team of US Colonial Marines. Now one thing i love about this film is the fact the terror & Suspense is doubled, what your not noticing when you watch the film is the fact the when ripley is in the room with the council board members they seem to denie the exstisence of these creature yet through the whole film you see little things that show that they know whats going on with hadley's hope due to the CCTV camera that were still transmitting because after they lost contact which they knew about because the base still had power the camera system would still be transmitting back to earth, its the fact why they did prosecute her for what she did in the first film & sent her back in for a reason to get rid of any evidence so they can get one of these creature for a bio weapon after the people were gone.i think the only reason why Michael Biehn character Cpl. Dwayne Hicks is the only one left stand is because he was asleep all the way down to the surface of lv-426 which made him fresh for the fight ahead, i think he's character is bad ass in this film i love the way he pull a shot gun out after they were told to hand over bullets & use flame thrower only, its just that one line "i like to keep this handy for close encounters" how bad ass is that.Bill Paxton who plays this cocky ass Pvt. Hudson that dose kick ass but starts to loss he cool when the shit hits the fan,Jenette Goldstein who plays Pvt. Vasquez & Mark Rolston as Pvt. Drake are like brother & sister in this film both playing off themselves as bad ass soldiers is quite cool, special the guns they have real do kick ass in a fire fight.Al Matthews plays a bad ass Sgt. Apone that takes not shit from anyone i love he character altho its short lived.William Hope plays Lt. Gorman a wet behind the ear L.T that hasn't had combat experience really screws things up for the team in the nest by panicking.he one of those guy that can do his job but acts like a complete ass whole towards everyone.Every one know ripley's character played by Sigourney Weaver, now i think this is a strong character for her to play that would normally be played by a male star but she really pulls this off, as this bad ass woman that just had enough & fights back, special with the fight with the xenomorph queen special that one line "get away from her you bitch" classic .Colette Hiller plays Cpl. Ferro & Daniel Kash plays Pvt. Spunkmeyer both play the pilots that fly the team in to the hadley hope.Cynthia Dale Scott i think plays the team medic Cpl. Dietrich.Tip Tipping plays Pvt. Crowe that seems to be a cameo like most of the team in the squad.Carrie Henn plays the only survivor of hadley's hope Rebbecca 'Newt' Jorden which is a tragic story as she saw the death & hearing the screams of everyone dieing & the fear of seeing these creature kill her parents & brother would have a big physiological effect on anyone that age,but for here to last months was remarkable. Now i find the special edition to be better than the original version because its uncut & it as the full scenes of the colonies on that walls with the chest rip open but you don't see that in the normal version of this film.

Dislikes : only one mistake i did notice was when Ripley was taking to carter Burke she said he was responsible for 184 lives on hadley hope, but here's the funny thing on the special edition you see the sign out side say hadley's hope population 185,weather they notice this when film i don't know but clearly a movie mistake.

Overall : this film is a seriously intense sc-fi horror thriller film, that pulls no punches when it comes to suspense, this is one DVD you should have in your DVD collection special if it the special edition.

Rating: 5 out of 5 for terror/suspence, 10 out of 10 for sc-fi horror thriller

Gerry Barnaby's Film Review: Lockout

Genre:  Action Thriller Sci-Fi  , contains strong violent action & strong languge

Cert 15 cert

Story: Starring Guy Pearce and Maggie Grace and set in the near future, Lockout follows a falsely convicted ex-government agent (Pearce), whose one chance at obtaining freedom lies in the dangerous mission of rescuing the President's daughter (Grace) from rioting convicts at an outer space maximum-security prison

Likes : This film wasn't to bad,it did feel like an 80s style film tho but it got away with it due to the action & the funny one liners from guy Pearce's character special agent Snow with a sarcastic humor which i found it added that lighter side of the film,he plays this agent that get set up & was going to be sent to the outer space prison but instead has to go there to rescue the president daughter Emilie Warnock played by the beautiful Maggie Grace that has two sides of her character & think that snow is a complete ass whole from the way he he is.Also staring Vincent Regan who plays Alex who i think use to be an under world boss because he took over everything when he go realised,i found his character to someone that kind of psychotic but have that edge to control people through fear a person that takes no shit off anyone & will shot you in the head for no doing something he wants done. Now the one playing his brother  Hydell played by Joseph Gilgun well he was just loopy psychotic someone you really don't want to be in the room with.Tim Plester plays mace snow friend trying to help him clear hes name on a mission gone wrong, unfortunately his life take an fortunate twist.Peter Stormare plays this argunt secret service agent right hand man to president Warnock played by Peter Hudson also staring (Jericho & walking dead TV star) Lennie James who plays Shaw special agent trying to help snow get in to the prison & get out with the president daughter. The one thing about this film i did like which i never saw coming was the twist at the end which i though (WTH),its what makes a good film leaving things right to the end keep the audience hook on the film.

Dislikes : One clear thing in this film was the chase scene at the begin of the film on the bike chase serious, the c.g.i didnt look real,it look animated & fake  when you do film your supossed to have thing look real that is what c.g.i was invented weather the producer had a buggiet on this film or not i dont know but that was serious low bugget effects when everything esle was perfect.

Overall : a worth watching film, some good one liners that will make you laugh, action not to bad overall not a bad film.

Rating: 4 out of 5 for 80s feel, 8 out of 10 for theme & action.

Gerry Barnaby's Film Review : Tekken

Genre:  Action Crime Drama, contains strong violent fighting & strong language

Cert: 15-18 cert

Story: The year is 2039. World wars have destroyed everything and territories are run by corporations, the mightiest -- and cruelest -- of which is Tekken. Jin Kazama (Jon Foo) witnesses the death of his mother Jun (Tomita) by Tekken in the slums known as Anvil. Vowing vengeance, and armed only with his street smarts and raw fighting skills, he enters a dangerous and potentially deadly combat tournament, where he must defeat the world's most elite fighters to become the "King of the Iron Fist.

Likes : From video game to movie is not easy for film to be made, there only been three other film that i know of that have made good film from video game, resident evil, super Mario bros, mortal kombat, now everyone knows the story of tekken if you played the games or seen the animated films, this live action film isn't to bad for a fantasy marshal arts movie.Jon Foo plays the legendary Jin Kazama who fighting skills must pit his training to the test as he fights in tekken death match.his mother Jun Kazamar who played by Tamlyn Tomita taught him to be strong & fight with heart.Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa plays the legendary tekken master Heihachi Mishima who runs the biggest world army in control of the world.Ian Anthony Dale plays jin father Kazuya Mishima a spoiled rich power hungry man bent on controlling the company for him self.Luke Goss plays a retired fighter that organizes fights for money helps jin into the fight arena.Gary Daniels (fist of the north star) awesome marshal artist 10 time world taekwondo champion plays the legendary fight half human & half cyborg Bryan Fury.also in the film as fighters are Darrin Dewitt Henson as Raven, Marian Zapico as Anna Williams,Lateef Crowder as Eddy Gordo, Roger Huerta as Miguel Rojo, the beautiful Kelly Overton as Christie Monteiro, Cung Le as Marshall Law, stunning Candice Hillebrand as Nina Williams beautiful fighter. This film to me was ok wasnt the best marshal arts film ive seen but still good to watch, some stunning girl & good fight scenes.

Dislikes : There is one thing about this film they changed like they did with doom & that the storyline because jin & Kazuya have a curse that runs through there blood, that is of the devils form which they have taken from this story.it was two short not enough fighting in the arena & a few character were missing as well.

Overall : its an ok marshal arts film, some good fight scenes, some good eye candy.

Rating: 3 out of 5 for marshal arts theme, 5 out of 10 for game theme movie.

Gerry Barnaby's Film Review: 2012 (2009)

Genre: Action Adventure Drama, contains extreme violent earthquakes & people dieing

Cert: 15 cert

Story: Disaster movie maven Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow) crafts this apocalyptic sci-fi thriller following the prophecy stated by the ancient Mayan calendar, which says that the world will come to an end on December 21, 2012. When a global cataclysm thrusts the world into chaos, divorced writer and father Jackson Curtis (John Cusack) joins the race to ensure that humankind is not completely wiped out

Likes : This film to me is one of the biggest & most realistic disaster movie of all time,it is in fact the most scariest Ive ever seen as in the fact i could happen this way.John Cusack plays Jackson Curtis a divorced father of 2 who a book writer struggle to get family to safety after the shit hit the fan as everything starts falling apart.Chiwetel Ejiofor Adrian Helmsley & Jimi Mistry Dr. Satnam Tsurutani both discover that the earth mantel has heated to the point that the earth crust is melting & shifting but to do this the earth we go in to an apocalyptic advent that will destroy every living life on the planet.Oliver Platt plays the government agent that has to give the news to the President Thomas Wilson played by Danny Glover & he's daughter Laura Wilson played by Thandie Newton. The thing about this film that really emotion is the fact of all the people you see dieing & scream really hits the nerve as all hell breaks loss, along with the special effect of volcanoes, tsunamis, the city ground giving away beneath them make this the most scariest disaster movie of all time.To me this is scary because of two reason the fact that it could happen & the fact that we are in 2012 now & the frightening through that something could happen is drawing near as it only 8 months left if this is really going to happen.this film in a nut shell put a seriously cold chill down my spin.

Dislikes : only one thing is the fact of the arks that were built serious, this would never happen because it would be built in time because lets be realistic no one believe it would happen but if it did happen no one will have a chance if it happen like it dose in the this film.

Overall :  A fantastic disaster movie, one of the best disaster movie to be brought out, action, horror, adventure with some disburding scenes,2012 has to one of the most scary disasters movie of our time.

Rating: 5 out of 5 for storyline, 10 out of 10 for being the most scareiest & best disaster movies of all time.

Gerry Barnaby's Film Review: Cabin in the woods

Genre:   Horror Mystery Thriller , contains strong bloody violence & violent horror

Cert: 18 cert

Story: Five friends go for a break at a remote cabin in the woods, where they get more than they bargained for. Together, they must discover the truth behind the cabin in the woods.what you think the story is isn't From fan favorites Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard comes The Cabin in the Woods, a mind blowing horror film that turns the genre inside out.

Likes : OK some moments of this film were good & extremely funny special with Fran Kranz character Marty who is completely stone out of he head all the way through the film coming out with these one liners that will have you laughing your head off depending on you sense of humour, the horror in the film was like a horror story in a horror story its self, yes there are some serious moments as well as some seriously over the top gore feast moments where blood is just everywhere it dose make you a sick if your not a fan of blood because there is a serious amount of it.( warning spoiler alert) now the storyline was OK but it wasn't good be honest, the whole plot of the film was about sacrificing a few people around the world just to keep the old ancient evil gods pleased & from destroying the world while re voles the story around these 5 teen ages that get draw to the cabin be the sacrifice in that part of the world.casting was good as well with  Chris Hemsworth as Curt, the beautiful actress Kristen Connolly as Dana,Anna Hutchison as Jules,Jesse Williams as Holden most of get killed off one by one in the most gore way possible, Richard Jenkins as Sitterson & Bradley Whitford as Hadley are the one in the control room orginasing this sacifice to keep these gods happy had there funny moments.also there in the control room was Brian White as Truman & the very beautiful star of (star of angel tv series) Amy Acker  who plays Lin a lab tech try to keep thing in order.a cameo role for Sigourney Weaver who is the The Director of the whole company.

Dislikes : Well to me all tho this film had its funny moments & some good scene it felt like a very low bugget 80s horror film with a very weak storyline to it that had no twist to it, right from the start you can understand whats going on altho a little strange when you see the eagle blow up when it hits the force barrier.the whole film was perdictiable there was no surpize moments that make you jumpyou could see things coming a mile off, to me horror & comedy just dont mix there two differnet films all together if your going to make a horror keep scary & intense & leave the comedy side out of it because this film could of been better for what it was.the ending seriously im not even going to say anything about that.because the whole film a big dispointment for me.i went in with an open mind yes it was good in place but it what the horror side was weak like abad 80s horror film & the comedy let it down.

Overall :This film should of been a dvd release not a cinema film, yes it good in place its not everyone type of film but this film i would be surpize if it flops at the cinema,i would wait for the dvd rental on this one, dont waste you money at the cinema.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars for entertainment, 4 out of 10 for horror theme & storyline.

Gerry Barnaby's Film Review: Battleship

Genre: Action Adventure Sci-Fi , contains strong violent action & strong languge

Cert: 15 cert

Story: Peter Berg produces and directs Battleship, an epic-scaled action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force. Inspired by Hasbro's classic naval combat game, Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch as Lt. Alex Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones; Brooklyn Decker as Sam Shane, a physical therapist and Hopper's fiancee; Alexander Skarsgård as Hopper's older brother, Stone, Commanding Officer of the USS Sampson; Rhianna as Petty Officer Raikes, Hopper's crew mate and a weapons specialist on the USS John Paul Jones; and international superstar Liam Neeson as Hopper and Stone's superior (and Sam's father), Admiral Shane

Likes : wow this film was just in your face intense action from the moment the aliens arrive on earth, from what you gather the aliens home world was destroyed by war they were looking for another planet but unfortunately it happen to be earth after scientist sent out a message across the star to a planet they call g, the thing i love about this film was the fact of how in intense it was to make you sit on the edge of you seat as they are forced to take on the aliens after they've trap them in a massive force field covering over 500 miles of sea & land, this film was an intense battle of superior intelligence vs naval war fare, this film was spot on action,romance,sc-fi & adventure mixed with intense battle scenes & intense moments that make you gasp in fear.a stop on casting for this film as well Taylor Kitsch plays a drop out looser that screws everything up in he life but has potential to be better Hooper, now the most funniest moment he had in the film is when he gets a chicken britoe for Sam Shane played by Brooklyn Decker dam beautiful actress,he get him self in to trouble by break in to a shop there he trouble start, when he force to become a man & take charge of the feet after he bother is killed who is played by Alexander Skarsgård (star of true blood) who commanded the USS Sampson.Rhianna not only a good singer but a dam good actress as well i think she played that role fantastically as Petty Officer Raikes she kick ass in this film along side Taylor Kitsch character Hooper.a good role for Liam Neeson Admiral Shane he suit role that have a commanding role to them he also plays SAM Shane father.with the special effect in this film as well made this film an awesome film to watch.the design of the alien ships were just fantastic the arsenal they had wow just devastating & superior firepower than the Navy,i loved the ending with the motivation music that was just awesome ac dc playing thunder as they prepare to take on the aliens on with the legendary battleship missouri that was in retirement that was just case as if to say ok you took at are small ship now its pay back & now were bring out the big guns that ship can serious kick ass.

Dislikes : not a dislike but one simple mistake in any naval or army you never fire on an enemy unless the enemy is fire apon you, use an agressive move or hostile act which the navy did fire first on the aliens which i throught was a mistake doing but it just a film.

Overall : its one film not to be missed, action, adventure, romance, intense sc-fi action thsi film lives up to the hype it got, with an outstanding cast this film simple put was awesome.

Rating: 5 out of 5 star for entertainment, 10 out of 10 for sc-fi intense action & scenes
