Gerry Barnaby's Film Review: Les Misérables

Genre: Drama Musical Romance, contains violent war scene, sexual activity & some strong language

Film Constance parent advised to read before watching :
Sex & Nudity: The song "Lovely Ladies" consists of sexualized lyrics, about sailors "poking" women and "dropping their anchors." We see about twenty or so prostitutes dancing provocatively, the man atop woman, moving sexually as she cries.Few other seen that contain sexual activities.

Violence & Gore: A few violent scenes where you see people being blow up,beaten & a young boy being shot several times that maybe upset a few people.

Profanity: One shit. One or two uses each of "hell," "ass" and "bastard." Jesus' name is misused a half-dozen times, most often by the innkeeper. God's also comes up as exclamatory.

Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking:
Fantine drinks from a vial (most likely painkiller for having her tooth extracted), several men are shown unconscious from alcohol and one man is shown lapping up alcohol from a bowl, and the "Masters of the House" song shows many people dancing and partying drunk.

A man smokes a pipe, and several men smoke pipes in drinking establishment scenes and in a meeting room. Frightening/Intense Scenes: There are a few scene they maybe intense & disturbing to watch.

Cert: 12A i would say 15 cert due to some content maybe disturbing to anyone under 15.

Story: Jean Valjean, known as Prisoner 24601, is released from prison and breaks parole to create a new life for himself while evading the grip of the persistent Inspector Javert. Set in post-revolutionary France, the story reaches resolution against the background of the June Rebellion

Likes : This is kind of a love or hate film to be honest but as for the singing, seriously some actors need to stick with acting because some of them really cant sing its shows in the film. Altho injoyable to watch with an allstar cast Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean , Russell Crowe as Javert,Anne Hathaway as Fantine, Amanda Seyfried as Cosette,Sacha Baron Cohen as Thénardier, Helena Bonham Carter as Madame Thénardier, Eddie Redmayne as Marius, Aaron Tveit as Enjolras, Samantha Barks as Éponine, Daniel Huttlestone as the yong boy Gavroche. The storyline was fantasy which show real emotion of the era & times of povaty in france, the set were brilliant set out to show how france looked like back in the revolution times with brilliant acting by all real set this film off well, with some very emotional scene that will have you in tears. It also has a very dark concept on how hard it was for woman back in this era as in if you didnt work hard in the factorys they had to sell themself to men for sexual activitys for money.

Dislike: The only problem here was in fact two actors Russel Crow & huge Jackman,Dont get me wrong here both actors are one of the best actor's ive seen in the film industrie but seriously they cant sing,it real felt like they were forcing themself to sing it wasnt nature like most of the other actors this is why i think these tow stars should just keep to acting.

Overall : If your into musical then this will be up your alley, its very emotion & a dark concept, but its like a said its a love or hate film depending on your taste of films.

Rating: 4.2 out of 5 for entertainment/ 8.6 out of 10 for concept /storyline
