Gerry Barnaby's Film Review: Red Dawn (2013 Reboot)

Genre: Action war drama ( Contains sequences of intense war violence and action, and strong language)

Cert: This is not strong enough to be an 18 cert but, i would advise parents that no one under 15  should watch this film due to contence

Story: In Red Dawn, a city in Washington state awakens to the surreal sight of foreign paratroopers dropping from the sky - shockingly, the U.S. has been invaded and their hometown is the initial target. Quickly and without warning, the citizens find themselves prisoners and their town under enemy occupation. Determined to fight back, a group of young patriots seek refuge in the surrounding woods, training and reorganizing themselves into a guerrilla group of fighters. Taking inspiration from their high school mascot, they call themselves the Wolverines, banding together to protect one another, liberate their town from its captors, and take back their freedom

Likes : I don't think this film has been given enough credit, yes there are a few people that don't like reboots of a film but this wasn't to bad of a film to watch, it got the action that most people like, its got drama & intense fighting, you could ask for a better hour an half film since Ive seen worst film than this & it gets a bad review. This film was really enjoy to watch, i love the realism of the concept of a invading country because it can come true. This film is well balance with action as well as keep the film focused on the group of teenage trying to survive & fighting back at north Korean troops that have taken over the country & most of the free world.Since the original in 1984 starring The late Patrick Swayze (r.i.p) & Charlie Sheen the storyline hasn't change part from the more intense action scene.Special the inspirational speech that inspired people to hope & rise up against the invader really brought a emotional concept to the film itself.Chris Hemsworth plays Jed Eckert, his character is a military man just back from Iraq when his visit is short lived & is force to become a father figure not only for he bother but for the rest of the group as well & train them to fight & survive with the skills he's learn in the army.Josh Peck play jed brother Matt Eckert, now i found his character very selffish in a way, because he never plays as a team player, its this attuide that get the group in trouble,he seem to learn that being apart of a team mean there is no i in team,he learns from his brother ways.Josh Hutcherson plays Robert Kitner, He is a member of the "Wolverines", the armed resistance against the occupation forces.which at first his character dosent seem to want to be there but learning that he's parents were killed it hit him hard he over comes that fear & come in to he own becomes a good fighter. The beautiful Adrianne Palicki play Toni Walsh older sister to Erica Martin, her character sem to be a love interest for jed character altho short lived she is a very good fighter.Isabel Lucas plays the younger sister Erica Martin, her character is the girlfriend of matt, who at first ends up captured.Other members of the wolverines were Connor Cruise who plays Daryl Jenkins, Edwin Hodge who plays Danny,Alyssa Diaz who plays Julie, Julian Alcaraz plays the complete nob of the group Greg, his character betray the group but he's treason is short lived. Will Yun Lee plays the korean captain Cho who character is very ruthless & will stop at nothing to bring down the wolverines.Jeffrey Dean Morgan plays a us marine Tanner, ive see jeffrey dean morgan actoring in a few films he is a brilliant actor, also in the popular tv series supernatural as the father of the the winchesters,in this film he's after a green box like telephone to bring down the invaders along with he team Kenneth Choi plays Smith & Matt Gerald who plays Hodges.

Dislike: The only thing with this film which dose let it down slightly is the ending, its kind of left to you imagination to weather they win or not.

Overall : It not a bad film to watch, its an averge film, but it depends on what your into, this type of film wont appeal to everyone, but its worth watching.

Rating: 4 out of 5 for storyline / 7.5 out of 10 for concept & action

Gerry Barnaby's Film Review: Die Hard 5: A Good Day To Die

Genre: Action Crime Thriller Contains strong language, brief nudity & some violent vehicle crashes

cert: bbfc gave this a 12a, i would say a 15 cert

Story: John McClane travels to Russia to help out his seemingly wayward son, Jack, only to discover that Jack is a CIA operative working to prevent a nuclear-weapons heist, causing the father and son to team up against underworld forces, Iconoclastic, take-no-prisoners cop John McClane, for the first time, finds himself on foreign soil after traveling to Moscow to help his wayward son Jack - unaware that Jack is really a highly-trained CIA operative out to stop a nuclear weapons heist. With the Russian underworld in pursuit, and battling a countdown to war, the two McClanes discover that their opposing methods make them unstoppable heroes

Likes : Let be honest here this was ok but not the best die hard film ive seen, it was enjoyable to watch & funny with the sarcasm being thrown left right & centre that real dose make you laugh, acting was pretty much soild but it lacked curtain things that a normal die hard film has.Bruce Willis returns as John McClane a hard new york cop that had a rough live with terrorist in a build, to terrorist at an air port to gold thief's ,to a computer hacker theif to this now, the relationship with his son was on the rocks but you start to see a bond between them as thing ht the fan.Jai Courtney play the son of john maclain Jack McClane a cia undercover operative trying to bring in a former nuclear expert when he's father steps in a ruins the the pick up point then thing just get out of hand,he real hates he father at first but seem to get that bond again as father & son.Sebastian Koch plays Komarov the russian nuclear expert that was supossed to be pick up for some files but there is something else going on.The beautiful Mary Elizabeth Winstead (cameo) returns as john mcclian daughter she oonly in this film for two parts, The really beautiful Yuliya Snigir play the daughter of Komarov, who love her father & seem to have a ruthless side of her,Radivoje Bukvic plays the merc hired to bring Komarov to the files & kill him as an order by a very ruthless man Chagarin played by Sergei Kolesnikov who role was in a government position that seem to own everything with money & fear.Cole Hauser (cameo) plays the other cia operative in the safe house. There one thing to say that this film wasn't lack of action or banter but it just was an average bruce willis film.so i would go watch it expecting it to be a brilliant film.

Dislike: There are a few thing wrong with this film, one the action was boring this has got to be the most tamest die hard film ive ever watch,im a Bruce Willis fan but this wasn't a brilliant film by far tame is putting this film lightly there was hardly any fighting apart from some action scene that seem kind of unreal at times, but this wasn't Bruce Willis best die hard film it felt rushed,it could of been better i feel the fact that this film was tame is what let this film down.

Overall : Not the best die hard film but watchable, just don't expect something brilliant & your enjoy watching this,if you go watch it expecting more your be disappointed because its very tame.

Rating: 4.2 out of 5 for entertainment/ 6.1 out of 10 for theme & action.

Gerry Barnaby's Film Review: Beautiful Creatures

Genre: Drama Fantasy Romance Contains mild horror sences & romance

Cert: 12 cert

Story: A supernatural love story set in the South, "Beautiful Creatures" tells the tale of two star-crossed lovers: Ethan (Alden Ehrenreich), a young man longing to escape his small town, and Lena (Alice Englert), a mysterious new girl. Together, they uncover dark secrets about their respective families, their history and their town

Likes : ok this film was ok to watch not the greatest of films ive seen but still watchable, cast in this was pretty much soild & well placed, special effect were good as well.Alden Ehrenreich play Ethan Wate who seem to be draw to this girl he been dreaming about but when he mets her things start to take a funny twist as he falls in love with her.Alice Englert plays Lena Duchannes a girl who has supernatural powers & at the age of 16 her power iver turn to the dark or light but has a curse spanding from long ago who falls in love with ethan but must push him away,i found her character to be very lonely but you could see why she push him away.Jeremy Irons plays Macon Ravenwood now his character seem to be protecting lena because of her up & coming 16th birthday because they seem to be scraed of her because she is like her mother a very powerful spell caster.Viola Davis play Amma the handler or what you call a watcher for the spell casters, she seem to be looking after ethan for some reason after his parents where killed in a car accident. Emmy Rossum plays the evil Ridley Duchannes a spell caster of the family who power at the age of 16 turn to the dark side of magic she became a serien, now i found her character to be very ruthless & uncaring towards people.Thomas Mann (cameo) plays ethan friend Link who get cought up in a evil twisted plan to turn lena to evil.Emma Thompson plays Mrs. Lincoln / Sarafine, nw her character seem to play two parts one side is this reglious person that go to church & read the bible the other side is being taken over by sarafine a very powerful evil spellcaster who seem to be in spirit form control mrs lincoln body.Eileen Atkins (cameo) plays the gramma of raven wood who dosent like ridley one little bit.Margo Martindale (cameo) plays Aunt Del there isnt much to say on her as she not in the film much.playing the two stuck up school girls Zoey Deutch plays Emily Asher who is still in love with ethan & hates the fact hes with lena,Tiffany Boone plays Savannah Snow who seem to like putting other down along with emily.Kyle Gallner (cameo) plays iver the cousin or bother of lena you dont see much of his character in this film he is only in a few sences.it like i said enjotable to watch but nt the best film ive seen.

Dislike: Watching this film it was more aimed a the romance side of the story than horror, dont get me wrong i do like some romance films but this really did feel like watch a twilight film just with a different theme,it felt like a copy of it, i think its this that lets this film down slightly. For the theme of this film they could of made it a little more creeper & a little darker,it just felt a little tame in the storyline for me it why for me it wasnt a great film.i do like twilight but when films try to copy theme of other films it just dosent work.it not for everyone to like but if you like twilight your probaley like this or not.its slightly a little slow.

Overall : Feels like a twilight film with a different theme, enjoyable to watch but far from a good film,it depends on what you like.

Rating: 3.4 out of 5 for entertainment / 5.3 out of 10 for theme & concept.

Gerry Barnaby's Film Review: Bullet To The Head

Genre: Action Crime Thriller contains strong lanaguge & strong violence & drug use

Cert : 15 cert

Story: Based on a graphic novel, Bullet to the Head tells the story of a New Orleans hitman (Stallone) and a DC cop (Kang) who form an alliance to bring down the killers of their respective partners. After watching their respective partners die, a New Orleans hitman and a Washington D.C. detective form an alliance in order to bring down their common enemy.

Likes : This is old school stallone at his best, although film didnt really hit off for me to be honest, but it was a watchable film, i dont know if its the storyline or the lack of action thats let this film down but it not normaly like this for stallone film's. Sylvester Stallone play the hitman James Bonomo who was hired for a hit but was double acrossed by the people who hire him.Sarah Shahi play his daughter Lisa Bonomo a tattoo artist that seem to know what her father dose for a living but dosn't what to be apart of it,but gets caught up in the mess.Sung Kang plays the the police officer Taylor Kwon who nieve nature dosent realise that the co works in the office are crupt,so he teams up with james to take down the mob boss.Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje plays this mob boss Robert Nkomo Morel that set james up & kills hes partner, until he starts getting greed which set up he's down fall.Jason Momoa plays the ex merc keegan who is a hired gun & hitman for robert, who leads to a fight with james for hitting hes daughter.Christian Slater play roberts account/lawyer Marcus Baptiste who handle the accounts & bussniess transactions for robert.be warn tho this film is very violent, with the fight scene, guns fights & the bullets to the head all in alll make this film with very strong violence that maybe to strong for a 15 year to watch.

Dislike: Im a little dispointed with this film to be honest, being what it was a violent film it should of had more action scene in this film it was seriously lacking that excitment level that stallone films normally have,it was very slow & with the lack of action this film was just a big let down for a stallone film.it could of been done better although stallone is a good actor this was by far the worst film he's done.

Overall : Dont go think this will be a fast paced film full of action because its far from it,although its a watchable film & enjoyable to watch it lacks that acion thrills that stallone film normally have.

Rating: 3.6 out of 5 for enetertainment / 6 out of 10 for storyline & action
